About the Department

In light of the continuous expansion of technology use within the healthcare sector, and the growing need for specialists who combine physical knowledge with medical applications, the Department of Medical Physics was established in the College of Science at Alnoor University in 2025. It aims to serve as a new scientific pillar dedicated to graduating cadres with a deep understanding of diagnostic and radiotherapy technologies. The establishment of the department came as a scientific response to the rapid developments in modern medicine, particularly in the fields of medical imaging, radiotherapy, and nuclear medicine. The department’s academic program has been designed to balance the precise theoretical aspects of physics with practical applications in medical institutions, based on international academic standards and reinforced through hands-on training in advanced laboratories.

Department Description

A graduate of the Department of Medical Physics is expected to have a solid knowledge base in physics concepts and their medical applications, and to be capable of efficiently and professionally operating diagnostic and radiation therapy equipment. The graduate possesses analytical and technical skills that enable them to work within multidisciplinary medical teams and provide the necessary physics support to medical staff in radiology and radiation therapy departments. The graduate is also familiar with the ethical and legal aspects associated with the use of radiation and is able to adhere to professional safety and protection standards. They can work in hospitals, cancer centers, universities, research institutions, and medical device companies, or pursue postgraduate studies in medical physics or related health fields.

Department Mission

The department works on preparing distinguished personnel who combine precise physical knowledge with deep medical understanding, through a stimulating educational and research environment that promotes innovation and professional responsibility.

Department Vision

The Department of Medical Physics aims to be a leading department at the national level in providing distinguished education in the field of medical physics, and to become a recognized center for training and scientific research in the medical applications of physics. The department aspires to graduate students capable of keeping pace with global developments in this field and contributing effectively to the improvement of medical services, disease diagnosis, and cancer treatment using the latest available physical technologies.

Department objectives

The Department of Medical Physics aims to achieve a set of core objectives, foremost among them preparing specialists capable of applying the principles of physics in medical fields, particularly in diagnostic and radiation therapy. It also seeks to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to work efficiently in clinical and laboratory settings, and to develop their abilities in handling sensitive medical equipment such as MRI machines, CT scanners, and radiotherapy devices. The department also focuses on fostering a spirit of scientific research among students, enhancing academic interaction with healthcare and medical institutions, and instilling a culture of quality and safety in dealing with both ionizing and non-ionizing radiation within therapeutic environments.
