Dean of the College of Science at Alnoor University Chairs a PhD Dissertation Defense Committee at the College of Science, University of Mosul

Professor Dr. Ismail Ibrahim Dawood Salem, Dean of the College of Science at Alnoor University, chaired on the morning of Wednesday, August 26, 2026, the PhD dissertation defense committee for the doctoral candidate Ithar Mohammed Saleh Yousif, who submitted his dissertation to the Microbiology Branch of the Department of Biology at the College of Science, University of Mosul, entitled “Detection and Inhibition of Sortase Enzymes in Staphylococci Isolated from Clinical Sources.” The dissertation examined the potential inhibition of the Sortase enzyme as an alternative and innovative therapeutic mechanism to reduce the virulence of Staphylococcal bacteria and combat both susceptible and antibiotic-resistant strains. This was achieved through the use of plant extracts and pure natural compounds. The study concluded that molecular targeting of virulence factors and disruption of the SrtA gene represent a modern and promising approach to weakening the bacteria, and supports the use of bioactive compounds as alternatives or adjuncts to antibiotics in combating persistent strains. At the end of the defense, the Deanship of the College of Science presented Professor Dr. Ismail Ibrahim Dawood of Alnoor University with a Letter of Thanks and Appreciation in recognition of his efforts in chairing the student's dissertation defense committee.
